Synopsis
The documentary-feature film “Zemlja ognja”, directed by Mladen Đaković shows testimonies about Nazi crimes committed between fall of 1943 and the summer of 1944 in Istria. The film features shocking testimonials of the survivors. Armed with cameras and personal stories, the crimes in villages like Šajini, Bokordići, and the massacre in Lipa are exposed. The scenes are complemented with feature re-enactment of key moments, such as saving the identity and an explosive atmosphere of setting a village on fire. The main message of the film is forgiveness and moving on with life, without forgetting, which is particularly emphasized by the emotional stories of women, mothers, and surviving witnesses who found the strength to forgive instead of seeking revenge.
