Synopsis

“Coconuts”, directed by Austrian director Franz Novotny in 1985, is a satirical comedy which depicts the absurdities of consumer society and media manipulation. The story revolves around a marketing campaign for coconuts which goes out of control. The film was partly filmed in Croatia, including Istrian locations. “Coconuts” features bizarre humour and stylistic experiments with the elements of commercials, television and pop culture of the 1980s. The sea scenes were shot near Pula, and the jungle shots in the German region of Lobau.
