Synopsis

“Cross of Iron”, directed by Sam Peckinpah, known for his nickname “Bloody Sam”, was filmed in Istria, around Stancija Grande next to Umag. The story is set on the Eastern front during World War II, and it follows a German sergeant who stands up to an ambitious officer obsessed with glory. The film features brutally realistic depiction of war scenes and moral complexity of the characters. Through this film, Peckinpah, famous for violent poetics, criticizes the senselessness of war and military hierarchy.
