Lim Channel is the longest bay in Istria and one of the region’s natural wonders. It stretches for 12 kilometers and is surrounded by steep hills reaching up to 200 meters in height. Due to its appearance reminiscent of Norwegian fjords, Lim served as a filming location in the 1960s for several international Viking-themed movies (The Long Ships, Erik il vichingo, and The Wild Vikings). At the bottom of the channel, an imaginary Viking village was constructed, which later became a popular tourist attraction. During this time that the term Lim fjord was coined—a name still used today for promotional and tourist purposes.
