Oprtalj is one of the most picturesque towns in northern Istria. It is located on a hill, and was once a fortress surrounded by walls on which houses were built. Next to the city gate is a Venetian loggia with a lapidary, and next to it on high ramparts is a plateau from which the view reaches all the way to the sea.
