Synopsis

“Umetni raj” is a Slovenian drama directed by Karpo Godina and shown in 1990 out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival as a tribute to Fritz Lang. “Umetni raj” by Karpo Godina poetically explores the combination of art and history through the character of the famous Fritz Lang. The story takes us to Los Angeles in 1935, where Lang meets a young film buff Willy. During their conversation, Lang reminisces World War I and his stay in the house of a lawyer Karol Gatnik in Slovenia. Their friendship and filming together mark Lang’s first contact with filmography - a memory which comes to life in front of old photographs.
